Killed by Google — RIP Services


Welcome to the funeral of various applications which had made our life easier nearly everyday. Due to some known and unknown reasons, Google has been removing its services and applications from their directories, forever. However, these are being left open-source for all the developers, startups, freelancers and solopreneurs out there who are interest to use, update or modify them. This year many major directories have been removed and some have been announced for 2020.


Inbox by Gmail

Much loved Inbox by Gmail aimed to improve email through several key features. It was almost 4 years old. RIP Inbox by Gmail, good old friend!



Google+ was one of trendy internet-based social network. It was almost 8 years old. However, Google+ is being operated by Google and Shoelace but new registrations are no longer available. RIP Google+

Google URL Shortner

All we hated is long and unreadable URLs or G-suite files. Google URL Shortner was a live savior. However it has also been shut down in April 2019. Google URL died at the age of 9.


Google Hangouts

This directory will end by October 2019. Google Hangouts was a communication platform which included messages, video chat, and VOIP features. However, Google Hangout for Android and Android Wear has been executed in May 2019 and 2017, respectively. The complete execution date is December 2020.


Google Allo

Google Allo was an instant messaging mobile app for Android, iOS, and Web with special features like a virtual assistant and encrypted mode. It was rebranded as Google Chat. It was launched in 2016.

Google Jump

 Google Jump was a cloud-based VR media solution that enabled 3D-360 media production by integrating customized capture solutions with best-in-class automated stitching. It was about 4 years old. This is going to expire in next one day.

Some other directories that have been killed in 2019 are Google Notification Widget (Mr. Jingles), YouTube Video Annotations, and Chromecast Audio.
