The Superheros Behind Odetta And Why Our Motivations Are Our Magic

The Superheros Behind Odetta And Why Our Motivations Are Our Magic
Dear Reader,

Four years ago, I took an exploratory trip to Pakistan to understand why 75% of highly educated Pakistani women were not in the workforce. In the hotel lobby of Islamabad’s Serena Hotel, I had the joy of meeting more than one hundred talented women who helped me answer this riddle and convinced me that Odetta needed to be born.

It was during this trip that I met Urooj, and when I met her, I remember thinking she embodied everything we wanted in Odetta. Having attended the best university of Pakistan, Urooj worked at UNDP and USAID, but was unable to continue in the traditional workforce upon getting married to an airforce pilot and being stationed in remote parts of the country.

This woman is a true superhero. While leading the team of Odettians, she has brought into this world and mothered two beautiful daughters. People often say that the first few people of any company determine its future success and culture. Urooj has helped recruit her two genius sisters into the company and countless alumni from her business school. She told us early on that she wants to be someone who will leave a mark in the world, and that she wants to be remembered by some people when she is gone. As our very first hire, the head of the account management team, and coach and mentor to hundreds of Odettians, that she will.

Monthly Use Case Spotlight: Building Your Top of the Funnel & Uploading into CRM

Zoom Info and other purchased lists get you 70% of the way to a strong prospect list. Next, you need humans to verify, validate, update and clean the data. We are often tasked with helping companies get validated leads directly into their CRM in an ongoing capacity. We find leads on Linkedin (and hundreds of other sources), collect lead contact info (email and phone, etc), then we run the data through a verification process. It is a time-consuming process that requires attention to detail and a bit of google search smarts.

Founder Lesson Learned: What We Dislike in Others is What We Dislike in Ourselves

Someone asked me, what is the most insightful thing you have learned recently? I knew instantly: what we dislike in others is what we dislike in ourselves. If someone’s overconfidence bothers you, it may be because you wish you had that trait. So the lesson is to seek to understand the people who trigger you, as they explain a lot about what you want to fix in yourself.

Odettian Quote: Why Our Motivations Are Our Magic
“I do not know the answer for how I am managing: kids and work together. I think the biggest reason I am able to manage all of this together is the motivation that I have. I just would never choose a life where I am not doing anything professional. It's so important for us women in this world, and especially in a country like ours, to be something on their own. This drive in me, this motivation in me, I have to do everything right for my family, but at the same time, I have to not let go of my dreams, I have to work, I have to learn. The first recipe is that you need to have that dedication.”

Quote of the Month: Making Meaning
“The only metrics that will truly matter to my life are the individuals whom I have been able to help, one by one.”
