Dear Reader,
Happy November!
During this busy month, I always try to pause and remember to be grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and the growth we’ve seen at Odetta. I read a quote yesterday about 2020: "This is not the year to get everything you want. This is the year to appreciate everything you have." This year especially, I’ve been reflecting on how far women have progressed– from the first suffrage movements in the United States to having female prime ministers and presidents around the world. Now, for the first time, the U.S. vice president-elect is a woman: Kamala Harris. Regardless of politics, folks over here at Odetta are excited to see another step being taken in the U.S. towards gender equality and representation.
At its core, getting a seat at the table is exactly what Odetta is all about. In 2018, the global market for outsourcing was valued at 86 billion USD. It’s only continuing to grow– and with Odetta, we’re ensuring that women are part of the story. We deliver on an excellent and increasing variety of services while staying true to our mission of elevating women, because, as Kamala Harris’ put it, “if we don’t lift up women and families, everything will fall short.”
Even though many of us may not be able to visit with family or friends in person over the holiday, make sure to take some time off anyway to celebrate! If there’s any way Odetta can help free up your schedule around the holiday, feel free to contact us.
On November 15th, I woke up on a quiet Sunday in Stonington Connecticut where I have been "monking" out for the past month. I opened my computer and saw hundreds of messages from my team, telling me to go watch a video (below). It was a 7-minute video of love letters from my team all over the world. Sometimes, I have to pinch myself. I figure if there is so much love in this community, then we must be onto something.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Katharine

“We used Odetta's services for a data scraping project we had. The team was super fast and efficient and the quality of work was brilliant. We didn’t have to clean the data at all and could use it immediately. And it's always a pleasure to work with a team that comprises smart, efficient women! 10/10 for sure."

Founder Lesson Learned: Commit and Then When Tired, Recommit
|

Once I hit a certain revenue number, enough to cover rent, as crazy as that sounds, some part of me slowed down. I had feverishly been working because I couldn't afford not to. I would have had to get a job if we didn't hit a certain revenue number (or take capital).
I was tempted to take it easy, after that. To “4 hour workweek” my company, and then focus on what I wanted to do next (write a book about the Odettians!).
An Odettian said to me “Just today I was discussing with my family that we all ask for things and once we have them in our hands, we don't give them the importance they deserve. You are an inspiration to me especially seeing you valuing something you desired so much and working tirelessly to make it great. Once you have what you want, you not only ought to protect it but also nurture it, go to great extent to make it what you once wanted it to be ❤️”
In fact, I had forgotten this simple rule of valuing what you have, and she reminded me not only to do that, but also that we have just started. So much left to do, and so I eagerly recommitted more committed than ever.
