Dear Reader,
Our recent revolutionary risk was to slow the entire company down.
We had our biggest month ever in March, and usually, after a big month, we gear back up to do it again. In April, it was Ramadan; a holiday many in our workforce celebrate wholeheartedly. We ran the numbers and decided to do something we have never done before. We told the entire company that they could take time off, work less, and be with family. We realized that because of our asynchronous work model and extra capacity, we could actually maintain 100% coverage with our highest quality standards for our existing accounts. So we slowed top of the funnel demand and stopped taking new meetings.
We are happily back conducting hundreds of demo’s a month, just like before, but our team is refreshed, motivated, and balanced. I have re-engaged with some new insights from my own downtime that I think may just help us leap into our next milestones.
I think it is a reminder that sometimes being smart means slowing down, doing less, and gaining perspective.

Monthly Spotlight: 50-100 Person Judgement Based Data Research + Labeling Teams
One year ago, one of our customers asked for a team of 10 researchers to assist with in-depth data research across public sources to contribute to supply chain analysis. Our team became known as their “highest quality vendor,” and also the team who could handle their hardest outlier cases. The Odetta team grew with our client, from 10 researchers to 50 researchers over the course of the year. Given the success of this track both for our client and our workforce, Odetta has proactively hired for this type of work. If you need high-quality high-volume data research in a managed capacity at $10 hourly, please do reach out.

Customer Testimonial: Excellence at all Costs!

“When I think about Odetta, I think of “Excellence at all Costs”. While we love Odetta’s mission, it is really besides the point. The fact that they employ these geniuses who have been overlooked in their lives is awesome, but not why we use them. Odetta’s team is the best at what they do, regardless of their gender. Odetta’s X-factor is their quality assurance and audit process.”

Founder Lesson Learned: $100/Month Tech Stack for Non-Core Use Cases
While we are building a software management platform with a ton of automation to make our work assembly more efficient, this is not how we started the business. When we got started without a CTO, we had to get inventive. Our company tech stack requires the ability to track applicants, project manage, maintain, and connect several databases securely, facilitate algorithmic matching, and invoice. We have been able to leverage and piece together over-the-shelf SaaS products in the cloud to build Odetta’s project management and allocation system that can manage thousands of workers, all less than $100/month. Most of the additional work required in this outsourced SaaS set-up is the data cleaning and upkeep of our SaaS platforms, managed by our Odettians (as one of our top use cases). There are thousands of examples in most companies where an outsourced SaaS provider and/or human team is a much better investment.

“Until Odetta, working freelance or working remotely from home was just a dream. Odetta has given me the hope to achieve my dreams, the ability to financially support my parents and return what investments my parents gave me in my education, and a strong sense of purpose. I am the sole bread earner for my parents as I belong to a struggling family and in the past two years, I am just utilizing my savings to help them financially. Odetta has given me the aspiration that I will prove to be their Son, not just their Daughter.” — Kiran, Pakistan
