Dear Reader,
Three months ago, I had a chat with a wonderful leader at a top-five Strategy Consulting Firm, and she added us as a vendor and gave us a project to prove ourselves. We would have never imagined having this "Strategy Consulting Firm" as our client, and we celebrated that day.
But there was one major issue: the project she gave us required advanced regression, statistics, deep industry knowledge, and we/I actually had no idea how to do it.
Every entrepreneur has a moment to decide: do you accept from your client something you are not sure how to do or do you say you do not know. For most of our discovery calls, we only accept work we can do. However, this was a golden moment, we needed to adjust our strategy. So we put together a team of statisticians, business intelligence analysts, and data scientists and figured it out. The final presentation was last week, and our team crushed it.
Our lesson: Be honest in your capabilities with the world, except in those golden moments, where you must invent your capabilities and build them.
Best,
Katharine
